What is best approach for a share-status based android app [on hold]view story

http://android.stackexchange.com – I am trying to make an android application that a user can add a status which will be shared with followers and may be liked and re-shared. My question here is how this can be done? Is it possible to use cloud storage for saving databases and other users data or i will need a web-server? Note: I am not seeking a real reliable system but only a basic app for my Portfolio! (HowTos)
