Does the JPEG file format support RGB data?view story

http://superuser.com – I am doing some programming that involves encoding image data using WIC. I used RGB data but WIC always treats it as BGR. I have a related question on Stack Overflow dealing with the programming side. However, I want to rule out that the problem could relate to WIC or the JPEG file format. Is that normal behavior for a JPEG, or how WIC treats the image data? (HowTos)

How to get Microsoft license authentication for all machines on a network?view story

http://superuser.com – We have a small network (~150 desktops, ~20 servers) much of which is Linux. MS keeps wanting to audit our MS products every 3 years or so. I really don't have time to go around to 80-90 desktops and copy down the Win activation keys and then correlate the MS software licensing keys. Is there some way I can get this information using Active Directory? Maybe using PowerShell? Thanks in advance. (HowTos)

http://superuser.com – When physical memory jumps to 80%, the RAM starts swapping itself to pagefile. How to increase this 80% threshold to say 90% ? I have 4GB of RAM which means the swapping starts when 3.2GB of RAM is utilized and 0.8GB is not in use. (HowTos)

Stop Vim from automatically tw=78 line-break wrapping text filesview story

http://superuser.com – I recently updated Vim, and noticed that whenever I open a .txt file, the option tw=78 is set. (Which makes Vim automatically break lines when they would have exceeded 78 characters.) I don't like that, and would like to get rid of it. I added set tw=0 as the last line in my _vimrc file, but that had no effect. (HowTos)

How to understand disk partitioningview story

http://superuser.com – I'm trying to understand what is this all about. First of all, I'm understanding a disk as a block of bytes, going grom the byte 0 to the byte 128000000000, since my SSD has 128gb. When I make a partition, what exactly is happening to the disk? Is it a software or a hardware change? (HowTos)

How to tell if it's either the CPU or the Motherboard that is bad?view story

http://superuser.com – I have an Acer 5536 laptop that won't boot. I've already tested the memory modules and the hard drive and both are ok. The problem is that I don't know how to tell which one is the problem: the CPU or the Motherboard. To diagnose it I removed everything except the most fundamental parts (the RAM and the CPU) and the peripherals that could not be removed like the USB 2.0 multi-card reader. (HowTos)
