Optimum way to back up my ultra-book running on windows 7?view story

http://superuser.com – Note: My laptop does not have an optical drive. How can I backup my laptop such that I retain all my app settings and I don't have to reconfigure it all again. I am more interested in a local back-up(i.e on an external hard-disk) and NOT on online storage as I have a slower connection. Any suggestions? (HowTos)

Search engine short-cut missing in Firefox 34view story

http://superuser.com – In the past version of Firefox you could define short-cuts for search engines. (by clicking on the black small arrow/triangle) and then "Manage Search Engines" - then you could define short-cuts) This allowed typing the short-cut character followed by a space and then the search phrase in the address bar. With the update to Firefox version 34 the option to define a short-cut is gone. (HowTos)

In a C program in Linux OS, how to check if a user has read permission on a file?view story

http://stackoverflow.com – The function would be something like this. int GetFilePermission(char* pcUsername, char* pcFilePath) { /*return TRUE if 'pcUsername' has read permission on file 'pcFilePath'.*/ } I don't want to use stat(). Since it would be little bit long. I have to check file's permissions, it's owners and compare them in different combinations. (HowTos)
