DISPLAY is not properly set in multi-hop ssh with X11 forwardingview story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I have a NAT machine on AWS which acts as my gateway to several other servers in a private subnet (where I ssh as root). Using xming and putty I am able to connect to the NAT machine and then run an X client with display on my desktop Windows 7. My problem is how to ssh into one of the servers and have that display on my desktop. I have looked at several answers on SO here and elsewhere. (HowTos)

How to burn files from a NAS?view story

http://askubuntu.com – I store my data on a NAS. After I mounted the folder that contains the file I want to write to the disk, I simply open Brasero and add the file from the mounted folder. I start the burning process and it finishes in no time, writing only about a half MB to the disk. If I open the disk in the file browser, it is empty. (HowTos)

Percent signs and environment variable in a shell scriptview story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – While troubleshooting an issue, I came across these entries given below in one of the shell scripts used by our application. This was written by someone who no longer works in the company and I am trying to figure out what the script does step-by-step. We do have an environment variable $PAT_HOME. By using the % at both the ends, is it calling the environment variable just like $PAT_HOME? (HowTos)

Attach - Detachview story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I really don't know much about Linux but am forced to copy some data onto a RAID over a Linux server as the person responsible isn't available. It seems as the process has stopped. I don't know whether I have stopped it. The process is attached. Meaning it was stopped or not? Why can I not resume it? I tried to detach it but that doesn't work. (HowTos)
