Moving the ubuntu from VM to Diskview story

http://askubuntu.com – I am using VM to run Ubuntu 12. Our building has some power problem and sometimes during the weekend things get shutdown without any notification. So, it seems that runing Ubuntu on a VM is not a good idea, nothing is stable, and I've started to loose my codes, etc. (HowTos)

NVidia drivers and 1440pview story

http://askubuntu.com – I'm making the switch to Linux and in the process I've ran into a weird issue. After installing Nvidia drivers (I'm using a GTX 780) after reboot my 1440p monitor is not displaying. I found where placed were saying to edit the x.conf. Since it's not created by default in Ubuntu Gnome (I'm using 14.10) I followed the process of booting into recovery mode and creating it. (HowTos)

Mount Flashdrive: Not Authorized to perform operationview story

http://askubuntu.com – At first this issue seemed to be related solely to usb's. When I insert a USB i get "Unable to mount xGb volume Not Authorized to perform operation" Previously it would prompt for root password to mount. Upon closer examination this appears to be related to the privilege escalation prompt. Any feature that would normally require a root password doesn't prompt therefore is denied. (HowTos)

Ubuntu touch on note 10.1 (2014) WITHOUT rootingview story

http://askubuntu.com – I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (SM-P600) and wanted to test Ubuntu on it (and maybe on my Galaxy S4 as well). It is still under warranty, so I do not want to root it or do anything to void the warranty. Any ideas on how to do this? I was thinking there may be a way using a virtual machine in Android? Enabling shared folders with open-vm-toolsview story

http://askubuntu.com – I'm running Ubuntu 14.10 in VMware Player on Windows 7. I have installed open-vm-tools instead of VMware Tools because VMware's software was unable to compile the kernel module required for file sharing. I cannot get my shared folder to mount with sudo mount -t vmhgfs .host:/$(vmware-hgfsclient) /mnt/hgfs or sudo vmware-hgfsmounter .host:/$(vmware-hgfsclient) /mnt/hgfs. (HowTos)

How many hours of use should a new hard drive have?view story

http://serverfault.com – I just purchased new 4 hard drives for surprisingly cheap. I checked their smart status and they are listed as having 30 hours of use 44 hours of use 48 hours of use 70 hours of use Is this due to a factory test process (something about verifying physical sectors, etc) or should the hours of use be 0? 70 hours of use strikes me as quite a bit. Thanks (HowTos)
