When should I type ./ to run program and when I should not?view story

http://stackoverflow.com – I am very beginner in Linux. I am confused, can someone tell me when we should start the command line with ./ to run a program and when we don't? I see they do not use it in tutorials, but bash would not recognize the program w/o it. Thanks a lot, Sadegh (HowTos)

Cut power to CD drive to save battery?view story

http://askubuntu.com – Here is my configuration: I have replaced my HDD with an SSD. Then I put the HDD in a optical bay caddy, and put it in place of my CD Drive. Everything is working fine, except I use the HDD to save bulk data which I won't be using that frequently. SO is it possible, by any means, to power off and on the HDD in my Optical Drive, while the system is running? A shell script will do it, perhaps? (HowTos)
