The problem is that the network manager applet does not allow me to enable wireless. I have always had problems with my own wireless card, but I have also tried 2 usb wireless sticks: Belkin Wireless-G USB Adapter and D-link DWL-G122 (allegedly linux-friendly). (HowTos)
