I've been using fedora 18 with XFCE on my htpc which is connected to a projector via a DVI to HDMI cable (the video card doesn't have HDMI out and the projector doesn't take DVI). It doesn't matter which version of gnu/linux I use, all of them have an issue with under(over?)scanning which results in the edges of my screen not being displayed. (HowTos)
