[all variants] How to force xorg to use specific display trough HDMI, regardless if it is plugged inview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – How to force xorg to use specific display trough HDMI, regardless if it is plugged in? I have TV that has some crazy "power save" option that can't be turned off and X thinks that HDMI is unplugged. After that, everything goes mad and sometimes my program bricks. If I could tell X to act as there is always that TV plugged in into HDMI that would solve problem. (Hardware)

[ubuntu] Nvidia X Driver Fails to Installview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – My laptop is the Acer Timeline Ultra M5-481TG. It has an Nvidia Geforce GT 640M LE gpu. I am running Ubuntu Studio 12.10. I have tried to install this driver many ways because Nouveau eats my battery and I believe is somewhat out of date. I have even tried using 'sudo stop lightdm' in another console. (Hardware)

http://askubuntu.com – I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop. It installed successfully, but whenever I boot into it, after the GRUB screen I get a text TTY. I can log in with that and enter command-line commands. I have tried: running startx. After initializing extensions, it tries to load extension GLX and then has a fatal error, "no screens found".
