[ubuntu] Unstable Wired Connectionview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – It seems that my internet connection is very unstable in ubuntu. In Windows it's fine, but in ubuntu, the connection seems to drop often at random times as I'm surfing the web. It drops for about 15-20 seconds before reconnecting. I also get this connection drop immediately after opening Google Chrome, almost every time. I'm running ubuntu on a Core 2 Quad PC, so the OS itself is zippy. (HowTos)

A few questions: Security, Encryption, Distro, etc...view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – I finally got Suse 11.3 (KDE) and Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome) on encrypted partitions a few weeks ago. Both would install fine but I had issues with getting them to both boot. I finally found a way around that using GAG bootloader. (I have four hard drives, 3 sata and one ide.) I upgraded Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and that made it so I couldn't boot Suse 11.3. So I just haven't had the time to fix it all. (HowTos)

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Published at LXer: Will Linux ever become a major desktop operating system, the way that Windows XP was? My colleague over at PC World, Robert Strohmeyer, thinks that "The dream of Linux as a major desktop OS is now pretty much dead." I beg to differ. Many of his points make sense. Strohmeyer wrote, "Ultimately, Linux is doomed on the desktop because of a critical lack of content. (HowTos)
