[ubuntu] Can't install and/or print to USB printer on networkview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a Brother printer connected to a PC via USB running Ubuntu 14.04. Printer works. I installed the printer on 2 laptops running Ubuntu. Printer wouldn't work. I was told to use CUPS to 'publish' the printer. That worked and I was able to print from both laptops. The properties were automatically changed to something like ipps: . . . that was weeks ago. Mounting drives, changing labels, knowing what's in /devview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I've been messing about with this today / yesterday and I've gradually got more confused the more I've done. I'm a beginner - so one thing tends to lead to another. And I'm not sure whether some of the information that I've been reading is out of date or not. (Hardware)

Disabling Cachingview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I'm running experiments where I need to measure the number of CPU cycles it takes for a L1 and L2 Cache miss (this older computer does not have an L3 cache). As part of doing this I am wanting to disable the L2 cache only. I've found kernel modules that will disable all levels of data caching, but is there a way to only disable a certain level? If so, how? Any feedback appreciated. (Hardware)

Live TV/Scheduled recordingsview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Using v0.27. I have a master backend/frontend and three frontend clients. I have had several instances where a person leaves one of the clients on Watch TV. All scheduled recordings for whatever channel is on Live TV will not record as the backend thinks that the recording already exists in Live TV. Is there any way to record a show, no matter what? There's got to be a workaround. Jeff (Hardware)

re-purposing i5-750 + HD5850 box to Plex Media Serverview story

http://forums.anandtech.com – Hello all. I have a computer which I just installed Ubuntu to which has an i5-750 for the CPU and an HD5850 for the GPU. What I'd like to do is have all my media content on hard drives in this computer and then stream to Chromecast using the Plex app. Is this a pretty reasonable setup to do that with? From what I have now, other than HDD's would I need anything else to make it work? (Hardware)
