[ubuntu] Loss of keyboard and mouse inputview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – While using Thunderbird to read newsfeeds this time, all input devices failed... no mouse or keyboard, except that the keyboard took Ctrl-Alt-Del which produced a logout menu. Logged out and then in, and the devices are now working. Wonder what's happening? 12.04 Gnome Classic (no effects) (Hardware)

Is there an easy way to migrate from thunderbird to evolution?view story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I want to be able to use the calendar evolution: the calendar in Thunderbird is a plugin (Lightning) and from time to time when Thunderbird receives a new update, Lightning does not always update automatically as well. So I wanted to have it native in GNOME. Can anyone explain to me how to do this? (HowTos)

[PPC] Quittinh Linux and going back to Mac OS? Please help me not to...view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – After almost one year of (first testing, then) using the several versions of Ubuntu, I became a Linux defender and loving Ubuntu, because: - I love the concept of free and open source software - I hate Apple's attitude, sometimes even worse than Microsoft's - There are really great free or open-source apps that are at least as good as the commercial rivals, like GIMP, LibreOffice and, of course, T (Hardware)

Swap on uncompressed ramdisk - useless?view story

https://bbs.archlinux.org – For me swap is useful: I have 3gb ram and 2gb swap (OCZ SSD),I can still use the system with a bit of lag with the swap almost full (fiefox opera with a lot of tabs, amule, thunderbird, amsn etc... with many days of uptime). HD swap would be deadly slow instead. Xemertix https://bbs.archlinux.org/profile.php?id=24759 2012-07-01T13:28:04Z (HowTos)

thunderbird-bin causing CPU (core) lockup (12.04, 64bit, up-to-date)view story

http://askubuntu.com – I have experienced 2-3 unexplained lockup over last 10 days. Today, I had a random lockup (no mouse, keyboard response, 100% CPU). But, when I finally switched (Ctrl-Alt-F1) to command line (it took several minutes) it told me that thunderbird-bin had locked a CPU. I ran this to resolve: pidof thunderbird-bin sudo kill #### However, after saving other work, I tried restarting Thunderbird. (HowTos)

[kubuntu] Processes in disk sleep when writing to hard driveview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I recently did a fresh install of Kubuntu 12.04 on a new 64-bit system with 16GB RAM. However, when I run a program that involves a lot of sorting of datasets (reading and writing to the hard drive), almost all other active programs -- Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. -- go into "disk sleep" and things generally slow down, i.e. (Hardware)
