how to remove lubuntu and install ubuntuview story

http://askubuntu.com – I recently purchased a Thinkpad R40 with Lubuntu on it but don't have the install cd's. The person I got it from doesn't know the administrator password so I can't access any changes. I went to the root screen thinking maybe I could change the password that way but it keeps telling me Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue). (HowTos)

VGA-->HDMI Converter Box only does 4:3. I want it to do 16:10. Is it possible to force the resolution?view story

http://askubuntu.com – I purchased a Monoprice VGA-->HDMI adapter (my Thinkpad X201 laptop only has VGA out). 12.04 displays via the box, but only gives me the option of 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768. Straight VGA cable to an external monitor would give me 1920 x 1200. Is there a way for me to force the external connected HDMI (through the converter box) to display at higher resolution? (HowTos)

[all variants] System freeze every few daysview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have ubuntu running on a thinkpad t400 with intel 4000hd graphics chip. It's a long story so let me start with what happened first, before while running any window/desktop every few days the dri aspect would segfault, so I would be left with windowless desktops. So I update the intel drivers to the latest ppa version. (Hardware)
