http://askubuntu.com – I use 11.04 and want to upgrade to latest version 12.10. but cannot get either software centre manager or synaptic to open, I just get error messages. I have downloaded Iso of 11.10 for an incremental install, mounted it but it will not run. get an error message stating ' cannot find autorun file '. how to upgrade incremently? can I fix software centre? Tried to do it and it said that The package system is broken Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems. (HowTos)

http://crunchbang.org – Then you are in the wrong section "Devel Waldorf". And you cannot do anything special. Manually installed just means not automatically. Remove it and install it by yourself, or use even Synaptic and mark/unmark it therefore manually/automatically. But I think your problem is with backports and the pin priorities of Statler that I always mention. (HowTos)
