The fans are going to cool it, and i have installed macfanctl which seems to have helped a little but its still way to hot for idle. While one of the apps was being updated and installed, I switched off Wifi on the phone. Since then, the app was under "installation progress" for a few hours. I thought of switching on WiFi and since then, the phone is auto-rebooting continually if WiFi remains on. (General)

You could try running nm-applet from a terminal. Or if you don't mind switching to wicd for network management you can use wicd-curses. (HowTos)
