What's a good way to email sysadmins the first time a failure happens?view story

http://serverfault.com – I have a cron job which will copy some files and such. From time to time it will start failing due to an inaccessible host. When it starts failing, I'd like to get notified - but I don't want an email every 5 minutes telling me that the problem is ongoing. I can think of ways to kludge up a solution, but I wonder if this functionality exists somewhere already? (HowTos)

What configurations need to be set for a LAMP server for heavy traffic?view story

http://serverfault.com – I was contracted to make a groupon-clone website for my client. It was done in PHP with MYSQL and I plan to host it on an Amazon EC2 server. My client warned me that he will be email blasting to about 10k customers so my site needs to be able to handle that surge of clicks from those emails. I have two questions: 1) Which Amazon server instance should I choose? (HowTos)

My personal case, I'm using Django and have one really large uploaded_media server with over 600GB of storage (but that space is running out.) Possible solutions I've brainstormed: 1) Try to build a bigger storage machine. 2) Move to a (HowTos)
