Pidgin on Ubuntu doesn't work properly with XMPPview story

http://askubuntu.com – I was just on Windows 8, and installed Pidgin, and it was able to connect fine to a XMPP service I use. I go to Ubuntu, try the same version of Pidgin (it was preinstalled anyway with Lubuntu), and I'm unable to send messages or enter group chats. I've tried Pidgin on Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu, and on 2 different machines, and it just doesn't work properly :/ Any suggestions? (HowTos)
