Windows 7 won't boot after I installed and deleted Ubuntu 10,10view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Okay, i am relatively new to linux, but i have used it before on previous computers. So i got this new computer with Windows 7 on it and promptly installed Ubuntu 10.10. it didn't recognize my graphics card or screen, and i was too lazy to figure it out. (xorg.conf was missing?) anyway, I went back to windows and deleted the partition that linux was on. (HowTos)

Ubuntu 10.10.1 crashes on boot starting NBD client after online update?view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hi, I loaded the Pre-Release version of Ubuntu 10.10.1 32 bit workstation. It ran mostly fine for about a 2 months. Then I did an online update and it told me that I had to reboot. When I did, I booted to a splash screen and then a dead machine with a black screen where control-alt-delete does nothing, no disk activity, no mouse, no keyboard, totally dead. Had to hit reset button. (HowTos)

Advanced Format 4k sector drive with LVMview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – So I finally bought an advanced format drive, the 2 TB Samsung f4. I will be using it on my slackware box, running slackware 12.2 with kernel 2.6.27-7. I intend to format the drive by hand with fdisk and start the first partition on sector 2048, or perhaps boot a livecd and format it with a newer version of fdisk or parted that will natively partition this drive correctly. However, I recently put it into a PC running XP (which had no viruses as far as I am aware) and all of the files in the single subdirectory became corrupted and unreadable. (HowTos)

Reading encryption password with bashview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – I have two cryptsetup volumes with the same password that I want to open in a bash script, and I want to avoid writing the passphrase twice. I was thinking of using read -s. Is there any security problems with this? The other alternative would be to have a password file on a small partition encrypted with a passphrase. (HowTos)
