Can a VirtualBox Guest Provide a Secure Connection Over Insecure Public WiFi?view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hi Everyone, I'm not sure what tech language to use to even ask this question, but I'd like to research it and learn how to do it, if it is possible. I'd like to have a secure connection over public insecure wifi, and I'm wondering if I can use something like IPCop, (pfSense) or some similar thing to set up a secure connection on my laptop. I installed it from a USB drive on my desktop, installing it to a 150GB size partition on my EXT HDD. After installing, I rebooted my desktop, and it worked! It works fine, but, since I've installed the latest kernel (3.11.11-200), I cannot connect to the internet trought Wi-Fi! When I click on the Network Manager panel icon (I use XFCE) it says "Wi-Fi is disabled by hardware switch". (HowTos)

However, when I boot up my computer now, I only get a bare shell with the following text: GNU Grub version 2.00-19ubuntu2.1 Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. http://crunchbang.org – So I use a usb mouse on this laptop I am running crunchbang on and I turn off the touchpad when I boot and accidentally sometimes hit the fn key for mute instead of disable touchpad. When this happens the mute notification will start spamming itself uncontrollably and won't stop. I then lose my keyboard function as well as ability to right click my desktop. (HowTos)
