Can iptables allow DNS queries only for a certain domain name?view story

http://stackoverflow.com – I have iptables blocking all UDP traffic at the moment, however I want to allow only certain DNS queries to get through. Let's use google.com as an example. I am trying to use string matching to find the domain name in the request, and allow it. This is what I came up with. (HowTos)

Filtering incoming Strongswan VPN packets with iptablesview story

http://serverfault.com – I am using a Strongswan VPN server on a Debian Squeeze machine. The incoming VPN clients get an IP of the 192.168.99.0/24 subnet. As I am using this VPN mainly to have encryption when using non-encrypted WLANs I am doing a source NAT into the internet using iptables. (HowTos)

Forward public port to localhostview story

http://serverfault.com – I have a process running on my Ubuntu 12.04 server that insists on binding to a public IP address. I only want it accessible from localhost, and NOT the outside world. I've been trying to work out a way to forward 1.2.3.4:8888 to 127.0.0.1:8888. I saw something about iptables not wanting to forward connections to loopback, and I haven't been able to make it work with xinetd either. (HowTos)

If I try to ping something, it will resolve the IP, but will time out after resolving the IP. My server.conf has this relevant information (At least I think it's relevant. (HowTos)
