[kubuntu] Hardy - ATI Radeon 9550 Direct Rendering works, but no 3Dview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I was running Dapper with both direct rendering and 3D acceleration working using the fglrx binary driver for my ATI Radeon 9550 card. I recently updated to Hardy, and switched to the free software radeon driver. After doing some research and tweaking, I managed to get direct rendering working. glxgears now shows decent frame rates (e.g. 1757.013 FPS). (Hardware)

[all variants] Does Ubuntu actually use multiple Cores for anything?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Well I don't get why you would get a Multi-core processor if it doesn't. If I was using Just Ubuntu would multiple cores really matter as any CPU intensive things (Gaming as an example) that would use multiple cores are non-existent on Ubuntu. I'm also talking about the Physical Limitations of Linux as a whole. Are there any Programs that use multiple cores? (Hardware)

[ubuntu] Is this a mobo or psu problem?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – When I boot I get an error message, something like this: Power Manager found error, see Power Management I go into BIOS, go into Power Manager and notice this: The +3.3v has a +2.94v in red color. Obviously that is the error, but what does it mean? I know it is a power issue, but the mobo manual isn't very helpful. (Hardware)

[ubuntu] LCD Monitor seen as CRT - resolution problemsview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Just installed Ubuntu 9.10, 32 bit, and my standard 17" LCD monitor is not recognized. Instead, I'm stuck with system defaults and a max resolution of 800x600 (640x480 after installing the nvidia drivers). Since the other 7 distros I'm booting are happily finding the monitor and I'm used to 1024x768, I'm not enjoying the experience. (Hardware)

[all variants] Have USB expansion, need to know if it's 2.0 or 1.1view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have a USB expansion card/unit. Is there any way to know which USB version it is. It is not a PCI card. It does fit in the expansion slots at the back of the computer where a PCI card would normally go, but it connects to the on-board 9-pin USB. There is no information, on the unit, about manufacturer or anything. (Hardware)
