laptop - external_monitor hotkey configview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Currently, I have to switch to the external monitor while still at the GRUB menu(using fn+F8). Gentoo does not recognize the hotkey, so I am forced to restart if I miss the timeout window of time (laptop monitor is broken). I have tried changing the X11 config file, but am still looking for the correct setting. (HowTos)

Statler ate my GRUB!view story

http://crunchbanglinux.org – This is weird.I have 2 #! Statler installs on the same computer, one for testing and one for everyday use. First I installed on /dev/sda1.Then I installed on /dev/sda2. So far so good.Yesterday I upgraded the original install on /dev/sda1. When I rebooted, something really weird happened... somehow the update process "stole" GRUB back from /dev/sda2! (HowTos)

Ubuntu 10.10.1 crashes on boot starting NBD client after online update?view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hi, I loaded the Pre-Release version of Ubuntu 10.10.1 32 bit workstation. It ran mostly fine for about a 2 months. Then I did an online update and it told me that I had to reboot. When I did, I booted to a splash screen and then a dead machine with a black screen where control-alt-delete does nothing, no disk activity, no mouse, no keyboard, totally dead. Had to hit reset button. (HowTos)
