Why do some programs not remain on the dashboard?view story

http://askubuntu.com – I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04. All the pre-installed software works fine, but some other programs such as Gimp Image Editor, Tuxguitar, and even Terminal have been giving me some issues. When I open up one of these programs, the arrow to the left of the icon that indicates that a program is opened does not appear. (HowTos)

What can you do with Fedora Liveview story

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – I don't suppose you can use any program in Fedora Live that isn't already there. I am in the process of playing with Fedora 17 Live before installing it over a Fedora 14 installation. I tried to add gimp, and it seemed to claim that it had added it, but it wasn't there. Is there any way around this? Note. (HowTos)

But in other programs the color is way off (very dark) and the resolution only goes up to 600x600. I downloaded the gutenprint-5.2.7.tar.bz2 but can't make heads or tails of how to install it from the ReadMe file. (Hardware)
