dedicated crash dump deviceview story

http://www.unix.com – Hello Guys, I need a little help here. I have been studying crash dump and per what I am reading, you can dedicate a slice to use as a dump device. Now when you dedicate this slice, do you have to : 1) create a mount point? 2) add entry in /etc/vfstab? 3) is this slice wu or wm? 4) should it mount at boot? 5) should it be fsck? I really appreciate your help guys. Thanks lots (HowTos)

Shift my Arch install to a new PC/HDD?view story

https://bbs.archlinux.org – - Partition the new drive- Format the new partitions and tweak things like reserved space and fsck interval.- Copy all files from old disk to new disk (probably you want to use rsync)- Adjust fstab and menu.lst to point to the new partitions- Install grub to the new disk (might require a bit of trial and error until you get it right)- Boot with the fallback image- Regenerate the initramfs- ProfitN (HowTos)

Linux: Force fsck of a read-only mounted filesystem?view story

http://serverfault.com – I'm developing for a headless embedded appliance, running CentOS 6.2. The user can connect a keyboard, but not a monitor, and a serial console would require opening the case, something we don't want the user to have to do. This all pretty much obviates the possibility of using a recovery USB drive to boot from, unless all it does is blindly reimage the harddrive. (HowTos)
