File system repaired?view story

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hello, yesterday I made a backup onto my external harddisk (ext3 formatted) via rsync. After some time it returned Code: rsync: stat "/media/my_harddisk/some/dir/foo.bar" failed: Input/output error (5) rsync error: some files could not be transferred (...) I then unmounted the disk and started fsck to check it. fsck told me, that the file system seems to be corrupt. (HowTos)

Randomly crashing Ubuntu 10.04 on multiple Xen VPS host instancesview story

http://serverfault.com – So we have Ubuntu 10.04 running - all 64 bit. Kernel 2.6.36 and 2.6.38-15 are having the same issues. Problem is random VPS servers are hanging. We have about 30 instances with this particular host. It freezes with nothing in the logs - neither in dmesg, kernel.log, syslog or anywhere. Logging is configured correctly. (HowTos)

Should I run fsck on boot for an amazon ec2 image?view story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I have an Ubuntu micro instance running on amazon EC2. Recently after logging in I was alerted: *** /dev/xvda1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** I've rebooted a couple times using init 6, however when I log on I am still getting the same notice, so apparently fsck is not running at startup. I read this blog post which mentions that if the /etc/fstab <pass> column is set to 0 (HowTos)
