Modifying GRUB2 for LABEL= syntaxview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Greetings all, After a recent hard drive replacement, I find that I can no longer boot my Ubuntu partition. It seems that Ubuntu set up GRUB to boot using the disk id, which is no longer valid. I've been using the old GRUB for a number of years, and have always used the LABEL= syntax to assure that the correct partition is booted. (HowTos)

We have software RAID 1 for some measure of resiliency, along with proper data backups (tapes etc), however we would like to be able to break out a new server and re-image it (including RAID setup) from a known good copy if the hardware completely fails on the production box. I have some experience and have dabbled in linux mint on several occasions, I get what linux is I suppose. I was running windows XP before, it caught a virus and I rigged up a usb drive to install another copy of XP over that because my disk drive is broken. (HowTos)
