Please explain Solaris boot sequence in detailview story

http://unix.stackexchange.com – Its same question for Linux here at Please explain Linux boot sequence in detail but emphasis on Solaris style of things. I am preparing a document in detail showing light on the boot sequence of Solaris right from pressing of Power-on button the host to the login prompt appearance. It would be great if we could combine and collate that right answers here into a single place of reference. (HowTos)

General internet slow on Ubuntu 11.10 if running standalone but not inside VMview story

http://askubuntu.com – I got a new machine for work and was already using Ubuntu before that with a chain loader setup to load Windows 7 on another disk. My employer likes that cause he can just rip out the ubuntu disk and no trace is left of it. My most recent problem is that he wanted to limit the reboots from Windows to Ubuntu so he asked me to setup myself as a VMWare VM. (HowTos)

HD Partition Permissionsview story

https://bbs.archlinux.org – Ok, I still haven't figured everything out... I submitted a ticket to dropbox and found out that the partition should have been in Linux filesystems (ext3 was suggested) rather than fat32. I finally got around to reformatting the partition, but now my permissions are screwed up again. (HowTos)

Windows can't remove hard disk safelyview story

http://serverfault.com – Every week I will copy the backups to external USB hard disk connecting it to windows server 2008 R2. Most of the time I will face the below message while trying to unmount/eject the external hard disk. Acknowledging the prompt I check if any window of HD is open and close if any but it always prompts the same while trying to remove safely. This device is currently in use. (HowTos)

How to solve my partition table?view story

http://askubuntu.com – I have an issue, not necessarily a problem. I have a disk, which had Ubuntu 11.04, a swap, a big NTFS and some free space. When 11.10 came out, I did a fresh install and recently I've deleted the 11.04 partition since I didn't needed it anymore. I've noticed that my partition table is a little bit messy. (HowTos)

Poor hard drive performanceview story

http://serverfault.com – I have nearly two identical servers, the only difference between the two is the version of Linux and the Hard Drive. Server 1 had (what I think) is a better drive, therefore the performance should be better then what I'm seeing compared to Server 2. (HowTos)

[ubuntu] Can't read install disk for HP monitorview story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Hi, I just hooked up an HP S1931a/S2031 monitor to my Acer laptop that's running Ubuntu 11.1. I get a display on the monitor and it seems pretty good, but I can't get the install cd to boot. Any idea what I can do to get the cd to run? And do I really need to do that in any case? Thanks for your thoughts. Sheilah (Hardware)
