[all variants] How do I transfer files with a direct connection between two computers?view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – I need to clone my hard drive, with Clonezilla, on my old computer and copy it temporarily as an image on my laptop. How do I set it up so I can copy it to my laptop with a direct ethernet cable connection between them? Clonezilla can use samba, nfs, ssh. I am a TOTAL noob when it comes to this networking stuff, so if someone could help me hook this up, that would be awesome! (HowTos)

When I opened the lid to open it, it did not wake up so I turned the computer off. When I turned the computer back on, it said that networking was disabled and it showed the wrong time. Now I am getting a Window asking me to enter a password to unlock a keyring. (HowTos)
