high load during Firefox downloadsview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – During downloads, the top command shows the Firefox process at 100% CPU. Yesterday I tried to download an .iso image. After a few hours the Firefox window would not refresh nor would it respond to input. I tried the wget command. It used negligible CPU time and completed in 28 minutes. This problem is easy to reproduce because it happens every time I download a file in Firefox. (HowTos)

Losing static IP addressview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – I have an Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 that I have given a static IP address. Every six hours or so I will lose connectivity to it and when I type ifconfig to look at the network information, it has been given an address via dhcp. If I run the /etc/init.d/networking restart command the IP address goes back to my static address and things are fine for another 6 hours or so. (HowTos)

http://ubuntuguide.net – The 2clickUpdate (pronounced: double-click-update) is a front-end for system updates. It is better than your classic Update Manager. You run it and it deals with the rest of its job (update package list, install upgrades, remove obsolete dependencies, free disk space etc.) without bothering user with confirmation dialogs that he would already answer yes.
