Is it a good plan to use a desktop tower as a server than purchase an actual tower server?view story

http://superuser.com – I have a Dell PowerEdge SC430 which is now 8 years old. I want to replace this server with a new one, but it was suggested to me so get a Desktop tower with the same specs because it's going to be quieter to operate. I'm planning on getting a server tower which would hold 4 hard disk drives (Two 1 TB and two 2TB) and 32GB of RAM. (HowTos)

IPTables setting gets lost - has to be re-appliedview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – We use IPTABLES to route traffic to a specific port. The rules are set and they are in /etc/sysconfig/iptables on multiple occasions we will find that the rule is not in place, and we have to issue the command again, there was no reboot. Is there a way that this will happen? Or a way to look for any logging to see how / when it happened ? (HowTos)

This may be a bit long, but I figure more initial information is better than less. Is it possible to have 'make install' update the rpm database so that 'rpm -qa' sees the software I have just compiled? (HowTos)
