Need help upgrading my kernel from 2.6.26.1 to 2.6.34.1view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – So after realizing that my current kernel (2.6.26.1) doesn't support my audio card, while the current stable (2.6.34.1) does, I apparently need to build a new kernel. The only guides I can find are from the late 90s, so I'm posting here hoping for a more up-to-date and debian-oriented guide. (HowTos)

getting audio in 64-bit Debian 5.0.4?view story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – What codecs/drivers/whatever do I need to get sound working on my debian 64bit install? I can play video files, but they have no sound. In fact the only sound my computer will produce at all is the system beep. (HowTos)

11.3 Gnome Xine DVD "audio device unavailable"view story

http://forums.opensuse.org – Recently I've upgraded from 11.2 to 11.3, but DVD will not play with Xine anymore. It will start the DVD up to the menu, but when I select play Xine stops and states that my audio device is busy. This is however not the case, because I'm only running Xine and sound works up into the menu of the DVD. I have Xine configured to work with Alsa, since that is the only way to get 5.1 sound. 11.3 Issues (VNC Aduio, startkde not working)view story

http://forums.opensuse.org – I decided it was time to upgrade my server from opensuse 11.0 to 11.3. Most everything went well (note that I did a clean install onto a new hard drive even, this was not an upgrade install). So far I like 11.3 (seems faster even), but there are a couple issues I can't seem to resolve. (Distributions)

LXer: Ubuntu Tip: Turning PulseAudio On and Offview story

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Published at LXer: PulseAudio was supposed to cure desktop audio in Linux. It promised useful features like device routing and individual volume controls. It may well do these things; in my experience it has been frustrating, opaque, and unreliable. Some have claimed that Ubuntu's implementation is flawed; I haven't looked at other distros yet, so I don't know. (HowTos)

http://forums.opensuse.org – Updating Suse 11.1 to Kernel 2.6.27.48... and then updating alsa-driver-kmp (from multimedia:/audio:KMP/openSUSE_11.1_Update) completely broke my sound system. Alsa is up-to-date from multimedia:/libs/openSUSE_11.1 and my sound chip is HDA_Intel on a Toshiba laptop. The system worked with all previous kernel and Alsa-KMP updates. boot.msg gives the following: (Distributions)
