[ubuntu] ATI/AMD startup annoyance...view story

http://ubuntuforums.org – Tried another forum (Precise) for an answer, but perhaps this one is more specific. I bought a laptop with a ATI/AMD 6970 card. When rebooted into OO or PP the gamma is extremely light. If I start the Catalyst control center and then cancel it, it reverts to my custom settings. The settings are shown as saved properly, but not recognized on reboot. (Hardware)

I have two top panels in Ubuntu for some reasonview story

http://askubuntu.com – My ubuntu was working fine, then I moved my computer around, and when I brought it back, I now have two top panels like so: The smaller bottom panel still works somewhat, so it is not just a matter of it being drawn twice. It is a further a huge hassel as I can drag, for example, Google Chrome. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? (HowTos)
