Just found information about a "new" shell that appears to be cooler than bash.
Why Z Shell is cooler than your shell
Now if only I had the confidence to replace bash with Z shell.
I have some shell scripts which I run in my Linux/AIX machine with bash profile. Now my bash profile is going to be remove, and I will have Korn shell (ksh) or the C shell (csh). How to verify whether my scripts will run fine in Korn shell (ksh) or C shell (csh), even after bash shell is removed. Also, is there any differnce in commonly used commands between bash and other (ksh, csh).
I am facing a problem,i m using Ubuntu 12.04 and the default shell on which i am working is bash.Though i specified in the interpreter line in the shell program to use Bourne Shell it is still working with Bash,i even tried to run it this way-
But in vain,it is only executing the Bash Shell
What should i do?
I have written a basic shell in linux and also implimented few basic commands such as pwd and chmod.
I want to set my created shell (executable) as a default shell whenever terminal opens. I tried chsh -s shellname, unfortunately it done nothing .echo $SHELL still gives /bin/bash as a current shell.I also edited /etc/shells file and added my shell in last.
So I recently started learning Ubuntu and playing with the terminal (I'm using Unix Power Tools, is it a good book?), and I'm stuck on the first thing that I got to ,which is to modify the prompt of the shell.
Sorry for slow answer.I think that we should explain about alternative hook, because Bash article has that section as related and there were not any information about it.If you think that it is wholly unrelated to pkgfile article, than maybe we should rename article to "searching files from packages"?Ok, maybe I do not understand what does "children shell" means?
