and thank you all for giving time to try to help
I have an internal card reader in my HP Pavilion DV6-6155ca and the card reader is a "multi-card media reader" (I know this means nothing but trying to be though) and the device is the RTS5209 PCI Express Card Reader. I am running ubuntu 12.10
When I insert a sd card nothing happens at all.
I'm running 12.04.2, and I've got an Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer (usb ID 058f:6362). Occasionally, I'll have a flash card fail, or get messed up, and the card will go "read only". The problem is that the reader seems to go read-only, because all subsequent cards plugged into the reader are now marked read-only as well.
I have a toshiba qosmio with an internal SD card reader. When I put an SD card in, it does not mount the card. I did lspci and I believe I see the SD card reader listed as:
07:00.1 SD Host controller: O2 Micro, Inc. Device 8120 (rev 01)
I did a few searches for answers, and it seems this is a semi-common problem.

Hello all. I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5 and the RH SD card reader is still not hot swappable.
I used this to fix:
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=pciehp.pciehp_force=1 elevator=noop quiet splash
Added this to /etc/default/grub
I have a problem with card reader in my notebook with Ubuntu 12.10. It's usage is always at 100% and powertop shows it's power consumption as 16W or even more (which is really really way too much for a card reader). This is the line from the powertop:
16.7 W 100.0% USB device: USB2.0-CRW (Generic)
How can I reduce wakeups or disable this card reader?
Hi guys, I'm plugging in an sd card reader into my Ubuntu Natty machine, and the computer can see the slots of the reader, but it can't see the card itself.I tried plugging in the reader with a card into a windows machine, and it worked fine. what's going on?
Absolute beginner here so please be gentle.
I managed to install Ubuntu 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope on my laptop and so far all has been well and really enjoying the linux experience. The only thing I can't do is get the card reader working on my laptop. When I insert a card nothing happens. I am using a XD card in the card reader.
How do I fix this?
I'm running Precise on an HP G62-367dx that is stock other than an upgrade from 4 to 8 GB memory about a week ago.
I finally received my Raspberry pi and am trying to load the operating system on the SD card. I'm pretty sure the card reader worked before, though I won't swear to it, but I seem to recall using it. Now, nothing.
