My laptop has xubuntu 12.04 installed and I can't read dvds burned in my dvd recorder.
To read my dvds, I had to use a external USB dvd driver (in xubuntu).
I've been having problems ripping DVDs in Fedora 9 with anything that uses libdvdread - particularly dvdrip and mythtv. These errors appear in dmesg:
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1107319

My system is an Asus G50vt-X5 with a GSA-T50L optical drive (dvd rw).
My cd/dvd can mount dvds but no audio cds, it displays the following:

mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

I'm thinking this is my Hard disk crapping out, but want to make sure first. This happens whenever I start up a guest OS(the only guest OS) in Virtual box.
Here is the error I get. It repeats itself endlessly until I kill the virtual os(which never completes booting up.)
Code:
ata2.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata2.00: error: { UNC }
I just burned 2 audio CDs. Then i downloaded F12 to install it on a few laptops i got, and now i'm getting this message when trying to burn the iso to DVD. I tried 2 different DVDs, and i also tried updating and rebooting. I also tried with 2 different programs (Gnomebaker and Brasero). I still get the error. Any ideas?
A server of mine had a drive failure of some sort which caused the OS (CentOS 5) to crash and stop working (it refuses to boot).
So we put another drive with a working OS and from there we try to mount the partitions in the old drive.
Most partitions mount fine except for one: the /var partition, where my MySQL tables reside.
When I try to mount that one, I see these errors with dmesg:

I own a Sony VAIO VPCEA35FL Laptop, and I'm having problems burning CDs/DVDs.
It seems that the burn process itself works, but once the disc is done, it can't be played.
I tried Brasero and k3b, both without success.
Sometimes the TOC can be read without a problem, but the data never is readable.
Also, when I try to play video DVDs, the dvd drive becomes noisier and usually the video stops for a f
Okay, my disc drive on my Toshiba Satellite L355 laptop will not read DVDs or CDs anymore. I've cleaned the discs and the lens, tried many different Media Players, got ALL the permissions, and even scanned for viruses and such. I tested the drive on OpenSUSE and it played the movies fine so it can't be hardware. So it's definitely got to be something with Ubuntu.
