I wanted to install Xubuntu on a old computer, a 850Mhz Celeron with 512 Mo ram. I have tried to install it but I got a message :" The installer encountered an unrecoverable error..." Then it started a live CD desktop session so I could investigate the problem But I don't Know what to do.
Then I have tried to install Lubuntu, from the CD I could test the memory and the CD.
I have installed Ubuntu 12.04.
I want to install xfce desktop.
When I try to install Xubuntu on my current Ubuntu installation, it won't let me install "xubuntu-desktop", but it will instead recommend me to install other packages in the Xubuntu repos.
Has the package name changed or do I have to wait for an updated version?
Hello all.
I've recently been trying to shift back into Ubuntu after leaving Debian Squeeze, but I have been having some troubles with installation.
I downloaded Xubuntu 11.10 AMD desktop and wrote it to a USB drive. Xubuntu will boot to the live desktop fine (that's what I'm typing this from) but any attempt to install the OS the my hard drive will fail with an error message.
I am a newbie to Ubuntu and Linux in general and I am having extreme trouble installing Xubuntu on my computer. The computer I am attempting to install on is a Gateway with Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3 and has an Intel Pentium 4 processor. The CD I have with Xubuntu on works perfectly fine, and I know this because I have tested it on another machine.
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my machine alongside Vista, and upgraded to 12.4. I decided I liked 11.10 better, so I tried to install that again as my only OS, except I increased the size of the swap file partition to 2 gigs. It boots up fine off the CD, but when I install, it gives me a non-specific error, and returns me to the desktop.
Have been running Ubuntu on my desktop since 9.something... now on 11.04, but have not done any updates for a LONG time... I saw Unity and decided I wanted no part of that! I have a laptop that I installed Xubuntu 12.04 on, and like the Xubuntu MUCH better than Ubuntu... So, decided that I would put Xubuntu on the desktop.
Hi.
I am currently using the Ubuntu 11.10 on Gnome-fallback mode.
My current setup includes a SATA HDD, with Xubuntu 12.10 on it. I just added an old IDE drive I had lying around to my desktop, and I used a LiveUSB to install Ubuntu 12.10 onto it.
