[xubuntu] Information regarding connecting to a wireless network

http://ubuntuforums.org – I am wondering what information is given to a wireless network when you connect to it. Let's say I went to McDonald's and used their open Wifi. What information do they receive? Or a public library, or maybe a school? I know they'd receive my MAC address, right? Maybe the machine name? What else? (Hardware)

Hi I have an IBM R51 laptop which I would like to run on ubuntu (as I'm currently running Maverick on my Desktop and like it very much) I have run the liveCD and everything runs OK except for the wireless network, which although it detects my wireless network, will not let me connect.

Hi, I've been having problems lately with my wireless.

Using Ubuntu 13.04 I can't connect to my school network. It is secured with WPA & WPA2 Enterprise and I have to enter my username and password school provided. This does work on Windows 7, and it has worked with Xubuntu 12.10 in the past, but now it just won't connect.

Ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04; my wireless connection is going crazy. I would connect to wifi; browse and for no apparent reason at all, it will disconnects. There's no certain period of time, or pattern - at least none that I can tell.

I am trying to connect my desktop to a wireless network. I have purchased an ASUS USB-N13 B1 adapter. I have followed instructions for installing drivers and disabling conflicting drivers. I have thoroughly searched and could not find a solution. The adapter is recognized and powered on. I have entered the ssid and password information into the wireless network configuration.

I just installed/and updated Xubuntu 10.10 on an older Toshiba Satellite laptop with a belkin wireless card.

When I start up I get a notification that wireless networks are available, and I can choose and connect to my network just fine.

All of a sudden my machine's wireless network is not connecting to my WiFi router.How can I figure out if its an issue with the WLAN card or if its withing the Ubuntu system settings ?Is there a command to check if the wireless is working ?

wireless internet connection 3 years 22 weeks ago

I have a Compaq pessario CQ60, a wireless network, and a Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter and I cant get the wireless internet to connect. the wireless works fine on vista, and I got the internet working via cable, but I need to get it working wirelessly. I am a beginner to linux, but know a little ( nothing in terminal though).
