[xubuntu] Broken on-board sound, but SoundBlaster not recognized!

http://ubuntuforums.org – I have no sound. I'm using Xubuntu 9.04-x64. It recognizes the onboard AC'97 codec. Unfortunately, the analog outputs on that device don't work. I have a large number of Sounds cards in stock. None of them seem to be being used when I plug them in. I've tried them on my Windows machine and they do work. I have several "Model: CT4810", Ensoniq, "SoundBlaster Live". and some I can't read without magnifying glasses. Where I can I find the equivalent of a device manager so that I can turn off the AC'97 and see if the sounds card which is plugged in is even recognized? Thanks (Hardware)
