Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly.

Xfce 4.10 packages for Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).
Please note that only Xfce 4.8 is officially supported on Xubuntu 12.04.
In one of my last reviews I covered Linux Mint 201104 Xfce, a distribution featuring the Xfce desktop environment that is based on Debian Testing. Linux Mint 201104 is a rolling release distro. Rolling release distros are great for some folks but not so great for others. In this review I cover Xubuntu 11.04, an Ubuntu derivative that also features the Xfce environment.
Canonical announced the first daily build version of the upcoming Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) operating system, based on Linux kernel 3.5.0.17.19.
Xubuntu 13.04 is an official derivative of Ubuntu and it features the Xfce desktop environment, which is stable, light and configurable.
Canonical has yet to publish any official information about Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail), but we do have s

I am using ubuntu at present. Learnt about kubuntu & xubuntu recently.
As the title says, a very simple question;

Is there only a difference in installed packages and default applications, or are there other differences as well?
And would there be any reason to install Ubuntu with the Xubuntu-Desktop packages rather than Xubuntu itself?
Thanks.
Just like its older brother Ubuntu, the Xubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) Linux distribution will launch on April 25. It doesn't have as many changes as Ubuntu, but it's still a nice addition.All the Ubuntu 13.04-based Linux distributions will feature the latest stable branch of Linux kernel, 3.8.x.
Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu and so on are getting lots of attention but it seems everybody is forgetting about Xubuntu so I decided to make a screenshot tour of Xubuntu. I never used XFCE so my notes are from the point of view of someone used to Gnome (so I'll underline the difference between XFCE ...
If you’re not happy with the default desktop environment (Unity shell on GNOME3) in Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), then you can try installing some alternative desktop such as MATE, Cinnamon, KDE etc or a lightweight desktop environment such as XFCE.
Why go for a Lightweight Desktop Environment ?
speed
efficiency
low resource requirements (it can also run smooth on older computers)
