I'm trying to install Virtualbox on Ubuntu 12.10 64bit, (Kernel 3.5.0-23). I've already installed dkms, build-essential, linux-source, linux-kernel-headers, ... . I still get this error:
Error!
Hi all,
I have ubuntu 9.04
I have compiled kernel 2.6.32 and I compiled it from some directory other than /usr/src,
for example /home/user/active_kernel/
I run these commands to compile kernel >(after setting .config file with make menuconfig)
make
make modules_install
make install
I run dist-upgrade and I ended up with this error:
Error!
I'm trying to install the Guest Additions in VirtualBox 4.04.
I have just created a VM in VMWare and installed a minimal install of Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3.
# cat /etc/oracle-release
Oracle Linux Server release 6.3
It is running with the UEK kernel.
# uname -r
2.6.39-200.24.1.el6uek.x86_64
When I try and install VMWare Tools, I get the following error.
Searching for a valid kernel header path...
The path "" is not a valid path to the 2.6.39-200.24
When trying to install the three amd64 debs for the 3.7.0 kernel from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/2012-10-22-quantal/
I get this error:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-headers-3.7.0-999-generic:
linux-headers-3.7.0-999-generic depends on linux-headers-3.7.0-999; however:
Package linux-headers-3.7.0-999 is not installed.
It installs and work
I am trying to install a piece of software that uses an install.pl script which looks to /usr/src/linux/include/ for my kernel headers...but it never finds them or that directory/link.
I've run "yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers" so I am pretty sure they are installed.
My "rpm -qa | grep kernel" returns:
I have updated my kernel headers, what does that mean for the kernel?
I heard that generic headers/kernels are NOT the "real" linux kernel. I currently have the 3.5.0-generic linux, but my father said I shouldnt have chosen this one because its a development headers and potentially unstable (which I experienced it with some versions of it).
He said I should get the 3.2.0-headers/kernel.
Hello there, this is my first thread. I've Ubuntu 9.04 installed and i've the generic driver that gives me a horrible screen resolution. In earlier versions I installed the proprietary driver downloaded from nvidia's site. I installed the kernel headers and run the driver and everything worked well. But this is not happening in this version.
