xscreensaver intermittently works?

http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hey guys, I got one for you. I am trying to figure it out. I have xscreensaver installed and configured. I have it set to turn on after 5 minutes, cycle every 5 minutes. I have acpi setup to blank my monitor after 10 minutes and power off after 15 minutes. The problem is, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't figured it out. The service from what I can tell only runs when the screen saver is active. So checking ps -e doesn't tell me much, and since there isn't a true problem it is not recording anything in the logs. Anyone ever hear of this? (HowTos)

Does anybody know which screensaver I can select in xscreensaver that will display text that I select in a style similar to the marquee screensaver in winblows? I see in the xscreensaver setup that I can input my text under the Advanced tab. I am using Linux Mint 7 with Gnome. When I installed xscreensaver, the GNOME screensaver was stopped and xscreensaver was started.

It works from the command prompt with something like this:
/usr/libexec/xscreensaver/webcollage -vvv -size '800x600' -imagemap crazy

I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in Software, sorry if its the wrong place.

Does e16 and e17 use the same dependencies?

I have e16 installed, can't really get it going well but it has all the dependencies, and I just found a great comprehensive guide to e17, so I'm going to upgrade if the same dependencies are needed. Anyone know?

Running Mandriva One 2010, wireless works great in Live mode. When installed, I can only connect to unsecured networks (BTFon, BTOpenzone) but not to my own BTHomeHub network, which has a WPA key. I guess the problem is something to do with wpa_supplicant, but I'm not 100% sure what to do about it.

Hello, my hp pavilion ze4900 was workign perfectly then i installed some navidia driver thing ( wich wasnt for my cp) and then when i restarted it went blank. I have read various ways to fix this but i am still a linux noob and need much help.

I'm using ubuntu, and I'd like my /var/log/syslog file to display unix_chkpwd lines, such as this one (which it doesn't do at the moment) :
Feb 6 04:20:40 www unix_chkpwd[20528]: password check failed for user (root)
I'd rather not install linux_pam unless really necessary because I already tried it and I've had quite a lot of problems with it.

And we are unable to restore the setting because the button to click on to do so is outside of the viewable screen! Also we have lost the start bar/dock at the bottom of the screen and cannot figure out how to get it back.


External Microphone not working 25 weeks 5 hours ago

It's great to be a newby on this forum.
I have been loving Ubuntu 9.10 and all was working fine until I tried to Skype. My Mic stopped working. I have tried all avenues. Sound prefs, input/output connections all I hear is static hiss.

How can I resolve the problem? I've even tried different mic's.

Please help.

I just enjoy xscreensaver, but I like to have it as default, when f12 start. I am not very deep in details of Fedora, but still, can anybody guide me to set this as default ?
