I was going to install catalyst on f18 to take it out for a run. Went to backup my xorg, conf but my system doesn't have one, is this usual for f18?
Code:
[sayth@renshawfamily ~]$ cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup-`date +%F`
cp: cannot stat /etc/X11/xorg.conf: No such file or directory
It hasn't affected my system on f18 which is currently as stable as a mountain goat.
I've noticed that there are a few problems with using the Apple Magic Trackpad by default on Ubuntu derivatives.
I think looking at a working xorg.conf file might help solve my upgrade problem. So if anyone has a working 17 or 18 installation and a newer Nvidia card I would really appreciate them posting their xorg.conf and nvidia-xorg.conf files. Thanks so much.
So, I've been playing around with fglrx, trying to find a setup that I like on my box. I was having some trouble with the install from the repositories (on a Lenovo T500), and so I reset back to normal. I then tried a more manual method used here:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide
The process caused X to fail to load, so I followed the removal procedures.
Initially X does not use xorg.conf. So suppose I have a certain monitor installed with the system, then X will be set in accordance to that monitor.
If I change the monitor after a reboot, what problems will I face?...will X work properly? How does X handle this situation?
I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and installed the nvidia drivers from their website (304.60 Latest Long Lived Branch).
They are just not working.
I get no errors on Xorg.0.log but I can't get KDE to get up.When I run /etc/rc.d/kdm start, it looks like X is started but all I see in tty/7 is a black screen with a static cursor at the upper left corner. These are my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files: (I had to generate an xorg.conf file since autodetection wasn't working)xorg.conf:Section "ServerLayout" Identifier&
I have a problem with ubuntu 9.10 : card graphic Intel 82865G is unknown
& I have tried those

Note: I'm posting this here because the system in question is currently running Lubuntu (for shame!) but mods feel free to move the thread if you prefer.I'm currently trying to configure my xorg.conf to letterbox screen resolutions smaller than the native resolution of my display (1680x1050) so that I can play older games full screen without distortion.
