Microsoft may have done a lot to encourage new people to buy the Xbox One by removing the Kinect from the basic bundle and dropping the price by $100 accordingly, but it still can’t catch up to the PlayStation 4. According to new numbers from NPD, Sony’s console is the top-selling U.S.
Today Microsoft announced that in June, sales of its Xbox One console “more than doubled.” It did not release a concrete sales figure for the time period, disappointingly. Microsoft last indicated a hard sales number for the Xbox One in April. It sold 115,000 consoles that month.
It looks like Microsoft's 32-month reign as the number one console in the U.S. has come to an end thanks to a little help from GTA V. Bundled consoles helped Sony finally outsell the Xbox 360, breaking an almost 3 year winning streak.
Interestingly, on the hardware side, Sony's PS3 finally managed to break Microsoft's long-running Xbox 360 streak.
The new HTC One unveiled last month is increasingly feeling like last-chance saloon for the troubled Taiwan handset maker. Today HTC noted that its sales for the month of February fell by nearly 44% to 11.37 billion Taiwan dollars ($384 million), from NT$20.3 billion for the same month one year ago.
