If I download sourcecode tarball from projects website and compile and install it using the standard commands (./configrure; make; sudo make install;) with instructions from readme files of the project, will pacman register this project? Will I be able to remove this project later using pacman if needed?
I had Arch running very well with xfce4. I installed trinity kdemod3-complete as described in wiki. On starting there is blank blue screen with dialog boxes (one after the other) stating that that 'kstartconfig not found- check your installation' and 'kdeinit not found, check your installation'. After that it comes back to login screen.
I have Arch installed with LXDE which I am updating regularly and which is working well. I have Nautilus file manager installed which works but on searching for files (through control-F command) it finds files only from the current folder and does not search in subfolders. All the packages are up-to-date. I could not find any option in preferences where this could be changed.
I followed the instruction in the wiki for autostarting conky with xfce and put 'own_window_type override' in ~/.conkyrc and a desktop file in ~/.config/autostart/ folder. However, on start of xfce, there is conky while the screen is blank but conky disappears as soon as desktop is displayed. If I start conky after this, it shows very well.
Many thanks for the pointer. I used following commands: $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec xfterm4$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec-arg "'-e'"I replaced konsole with xfterm4 in the first line. Now the terminal opens but closes immediately.
