http://ubuntuforums.org – after i tried to install HD plug in for veetle, i restarted the computer and tried to log in to my session and i got this message: Could not update ICEauthority file /home/ouarzazatemaroc/.ICEauthority i tried these commands as mentioned in some Threads sudo chown you:you ~/.Iceauthority chmod 0600 ~/.Iceauthority sudo chmod 755 /etc/gconf/gconf.xml* i tried any solved posts, nothing worked for me. please me brothers. tnx (Hardware)

Is the error I get every time I boot up..

when i go to log in this error code appears. i have tried using "chown james:james /home/james/.ICEauthority" followed by "chmod 644 /home/james/.ICEauthority" in the root menu,but this was unsuccessful.

Hello, I'm an Ubuntu 12.04 user. Today when I turned on my computer, I got the following message upon login:

"Could not update ICEauthority file /home/user/.ICEauthority"

I've been searching around how can I fix it, but still haven't found the solution.

Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my main computer and all was working well until 20 minutes ago. I restarted the machine and got an .ICEauthority error which i fixed with the following commands:

chown 'user':'user' /home/'user'/.ICEauthority chmod 644 /home/'user'/.ICEauthority

Don't know if it's related but after that I noticed that the internet connection was gone!

Hi I have a F17 Kernel 3.5.0-2 machine which will boot fine and open a Gnome Login Screen. When I attempt to login it comes back with an error message. Could not update ICEauthority file /home/xxxx/.ICEauthority. (xxxx is user). Is there away to clear this authentication hangup that will allow me to login properly? I have tried 'mv to a .bak file. No luck. Tried touch function.

When I start my laptop and try to login, I'm facing these messages:

Could not find ICEauthority

and

Problem with configuration server /use/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-santy-check-2 exited with status 256.

After closing both error windows, if I press CTRL+ALT+T the terminal window opens normally.

I Tried hardly but unable to solve these problems. If any one can, please help me.

ICEauthority can't update 3 years 22 weeks ago

After installing madwifi, I get this error message at login

couldn't update ICEauthority/home/name/ICEaithority.

Now I don't have to login i.e. enter my password. It just goes to a black screen and I get this error, which I close out and than I am logged into my desktop which seems to be fine.

Im running Ubuntu 12.04 on the vm . However, all of a sudden I get the 'could not update ICEAuthority file' when I try to boot. I tried looking up a load of solutions but all of these involved getting into the command line while booting, which Im not able to do while using a VM. Any help would be appreciated.

hola a todos acabo de actualizar desde ubuntu 10 a ubuntu 12.10 pero cuando termino la instalación me pido reiniciar luego cuando quiero ingresar con mi cuenta de administrador me sale un mensaje de ERROR (Could not Update ICEauthority file /home/carlos/ICEauthority) y me pide cerrar la sesión es decir no me permite ingresar que puedo hacer, intente reinstalar pero igual.porfavor pido que me ayude
