I am trying to silently install ubuntu using wubi. When I start wubi.exe on windows, a dialog box comes which asks for user information like username, password, etc. I want to skip this dialog box i.e. I want to by pass this step.
wubi.exe used to work fine with earlier versions of ubuntu, but there is some issue with wubi for 14.04. I used to install ubuntu along with Windows as an add/removable program. when both files (wubi.exe and iso) placed in the same folder and wubi was run, the whole process didn't take more than 1-5 minutes to complete.
But this is changed in ubuntu 14.04, I did the same process.
I know... Wubi is bad... Wubi is dead... Wubi is lame... Wubi is hated by everybody and very dangerous, it fails on EFI hardware, everybody sings: "No Wubi - No cry", and so on...
Yes. I understand. You are right.
But... ;) I like to experiment.
Yeah. I love to try stupid things!
So, this is no newbie question. I am just a crazy nerd who loves to fiddle.
First time poster here. I am trying to run Ubuntu on Windows 7 64-bit using Wubi. On my first couple of tries it gave me the "Extraction failed with code: 2". Then I manually downloaded the iso ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso (choosing the 64-bit version from the dropdown) to my desktop where the wubi.exe is. I'm still having the same issue.
So I have used Wubi for ages as I still need Windows. I recommend it to everyone who wants to dabble since if they do not like it they can just use Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it. So I was a bit surprised when I gave someone a CD and they tried to use it to install Ubuntu and ended up with a complete mess. I duplicated things myself so they did not do anything wrong.
