Sony’s new smartwatch, which is actually named the SmartWatch 2, has been a known quantity since its official announcement in June at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, and now the Samsung Galaxy Gear has been itemized by its creators in Berlin at IFA.
Lately Sony has been very “developer friendly” with their Android devices such as the Xperia Z, and that trend won’t stop as Sony recently fully opened up their SmartWatch platform to all developers. Per Sony:

Sony revised its Android-based SmartWatch with a higher-resolution, water resistant SmartWatch 2 model featuring NFC sync and a longer-lasting battery. The 1.6-inch SmartWatch 2 was announced two weeks after the company open-sourced the Android firmware for the original SmartWatch.
Hi all, Ive installed CM9.1 on my Xperia S and all is well except I cannot sync my Sony Smartwatch with it, Ive tried everything, BT works fine to PC, It can pair with my phone just wont work even if I install the Smartwatch software via Play Store
Yesterday a report out of Korea suggested the Galaxy Gear is an absolute flop and that only 50,000 units have been sold to date. Of course, one day can make all the difference in the world when it comes to news.
