Could something else be triggering it?  What confuses me is how does it know what config file to use to connect, or does it just try any in that folder?I am not sure what you are asking here... is this all about wpa_supplicant?  If so, it will run (like any other service) if it is enabled, or started manually.  Use systemctl to disable it.  If it is enabled, or if you want to see if it is enabled, the systemctl command is simply "systemctl is-enabled <service>".  To see if it is active, swap (HowTos)
