Wow seriously impressed with ringtail nvidia 310.14

http://ubuntuforums.org – This is the first version of ubuntu with unity de i have ran that is silky smooth compared to 12.04/12.10 etc. Compiz is running nicely without any animation lags and the unity reveal animation is jerk free. I have been critical of past versions of unity because of the jerky animations and compiz bugs but if ringtail is running this well at release time then it will earn a spot as my main distro on my ssd drive where windows 7 currently resides. Has anyone else found the performance of ringtail to be a significant improvement? (Hardware)

The Raring Ringtail without Unity works very well too.

I ask this as with the Unity Desktop running , when I try any games with my Ubuntu 12.04.1 build you get so much frame rate drop with Unity and Compiz- If i switch to Gnome Classic which uses mutter I believe you get a vast boost in performance.

My system is an 8 core AMD with a Nvidia 460 SE that can play anything I chuck at it in Windows and Im using the latest Nvidia drivers, but simple games

I`ve been using the 12.10 since It was launched.

I have a I7 with a Geforce GT520 running 304.43 driver version.

With 12.04, using a lot of Compiz animation, I could drag a window running glxgears quickly through the desktop, but now, using 12.10, is almost impossible to do this. It's hangs a lot.

Out of a sudden after I logging in to the 'Ubuntu' session Unity or maybe Compiz doesn't start anymore (actually I'm not sure wether it is Compiz or Unity).

Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) is now out, but it has been release without an important update for Unity, which didn’t made the cut before the launch day.The biggest feature of Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) should have been the Smart Scopes, a collection of scopes for Unity (like the existing Music, Video, and so on).

I recently learned about Compiz and I had read that Unity was comparable to windows aero... so that left me wondering, if Compiz isn't a desktop enviroment, what is it? And is it possible for Compiz and Unity to coexist?
