Hi,
I had a asus u30jc laptop with dual video NVIDIA OPTIMUS features (Built-in Intel and Nvidia geforce 310M), I just wondering if someone already figure out how the official nvidia driver works, or any tweaks inorder to use the nvidia card, Ive been using this laptop for more than a year now, and i cant figure out or find a tutorials that work (when i try installed any nvidia driver it rende
first at all check lspci | grep -i vgaI have optimus and I see both cards, Intel and nVidia. What do you see?If you install xf86-video-intel instead of nvidia driver, does it work then?
Hi
Decided to start a thread to list some of the laptops that have nvidia optimus in them and get it to run with Ubuntu (or other variants) with Bumblebee or Ironhide or other solutions that exist out there.
Basically I'm curious about the Ubuntu laptop users' answers to the following questions:
1) What kind of laptops do you use and with what NVIDIA video card?
I've a laptop with an Nvidia optimus graphic card (GEForce GT 630m) with Ubuntu 12.04 installed. After a while of looking around, I found that the optimus controller for linus is bumblebee, so I installed it.
I would like to know whether is possible to perform GPU calculations using this driver, or Should I install the Nvidia driver?
Linus torvalds shows the finger to nvidia about the nvidia optimus not being enabled for linux and their stuborn attitude for not supporting optimus for nvidia.
It might sound as if Linus went bit overboard but everyone felt the same when we bought the hybrid hardware and now he makes nvidia understand what it ultimately made the customers feel when they tried linux with their hybrid chips.

I am shopping for a new laptop. Most new laptops come with a hybrid graphics setup and often with NVidia (Optimus).
I am eyeing a Samsung Series 7 Chronos NP700Z7C-S02DE. It has an integrated Intel graphics card and a discrete Nvidia with Optimus technology.
Hi Gud day,
I would like to ask about if someone out here use an optimus technology laptop install the bumblebee package to enable to use the nvidia graphics card.
I just wondering on my optimus laptop which i install the latest ubuntu dist. which is 12.04 precise and update to kernel as of this date is 3.2.0-24.
Im using lucyd and bumblebee to access my paid graphics nvidia card.
Bumblebee is a package for Optimus laptops (and some other nvidia hybrids like MacBook Pro 2009, AMD support is being developed). If you are going to install Bumblebee with the proprietary driver, keep in mind that it is not compatible with the stock nvidia-utils package, you need nvidia-utils-bumblebee for it to work.
graysky wrote:@OP - that sucks, but it is the sad situation that exists in this market. In short, nvidia support for linux is lacking on the optimus platform. This is why, in a talk held at Aalto University in Helsinki Finland, Linus Torvalds told nvidia to f*ck off while addressing a question from one of the audience members regarding issues she had with a laptop running NVIDIA Optimu
